Transcranial magnetic stimulation for the treatment of depression: feasibility and results under naturalistic conditions: a retrospective analysis

Depression is a severe, common psychiatric illness with limited therapeutic options. Treatment refractory depression can be hard to track and compliance from patients can be difficult to achieve. In this study 232 patients with resistant-depression were studied in a naturalistic setting using TMS. In summary, the lack of severe side effects and treatment adherence of 90% demonstrate the safety, feasibility and high acceptance of rTMS as an antidepressant treatment under real-world conditions (Frank et al., 2011).
