The value of neuronavigated rTMS for the treatment of depression

TMS studies find that efficacy rates appear to depend on a number of factors including the orientation and position of the coil over the scalp, intensity and frequency of stimulation and total number of magnetic pulses delivered. This review compared various randomized clinical trials to find that navigated TMS is likely to present an advantage compared to the standard TMS treatment. This works to target the appropriate cortical area to treat depression on an individual basis (Schönfeldt-Lecuona et al., 2010).
